A Fresh Start

Since arriving home three weeks ago, I have soaked in quality time with people that I love, rested, eaten an outrageous amount of thai food, and pondered (read: fretted about) what comes next for me. I am now excited to share that I have something of an answer! Tomorrow evening, I will be flying from Philly to Austin, TX to continue my BVS service at a non-profit organization called the Bernardo Kohler Center for Immigration (BKC). The BKC provides legal services to the Texas immigrant community at a much lower rate than private attorneys. My job title is Receptionist-Intake Assistant and I’ll let you know later down the line what my responsibilities entail! I'm also not sure when I'll be ending my service, but it won't be until at least August 29th. I’ll be staying in a room that an elderly woman is renting in her home, and there is another renter currently living there as well. The house is only 1.2 miles from the Lutheran Church where BKC has its offices. There are still a lot of unknowns, but I am hopeful that this will be a great opportunity to apply what I learned in Ecuador to be of service in a new context. Thank you for your care and support during my time at home and as I make this next transition!
So glad you have a plan. Waiting is frustrating, but sounds like you recharged your batteries and are ready to go! Looking forward to hearing about Texas. You may even end up buying some cowboy boots :-)
